Book Launch: Book Of Doug Pop Art Or Modernist
Book Of Doug was released in July 2024 and contains a collection of works from the artist #PopArtDoug. The book was written by Doug’s brother Norman and his son Luke.
Born in the UK in 1939, Doug Kemp’s art is a fusion of dark forces and comic book nostalgia, rendered in a retro style that’s both humorous and tragic. His work features a dynamic visual style and a recurring cast of characters that bring his artworks to life.
Beyond his iconic figures, Doug’s art often reflects the people and places that have profoundly influenced him. While Doug’s work fits within the broad strokes of Pop Art, he himself considers this label a convenient but incomplete descriptor of his distinct style.
Educated at Walthamstow College of Art and a graduate of The Royal Academy of Arts Schools in the 1960s, Doug’s career in art education includes a fellowship at Gloucester College of Art and a senior lecturer position at Loughborough College of Art and Design until 1993.
This first volume of the Book Of Doug contains only a limited number of examples of his work and is presented in no particular order. For more information about Doug Kemp’s six-decade career and to find a larger selection of his art, please search Doug Kemp Art.
