Blurring Boundaries: Patty Carroll and Doug Kemp Redefining Artistic Collaboration

In her captivating photographic artwork titled “Selfie,” Patty Carroll skilfully weaves together different artistic mediums to create a visually compelling narrative.

At the centre of this composition lies Doug Kemp’s linocut print, “Madam Medusa,” sourced from his “Heroes and Villains” pop art collection of the 1990s.  Carroll’s artistic vision masterfully integrates this Linocut print into her photographic creation, elevating the concept to new heights.

The juxtaposition of Kemp’s enigmatic villainess with Carroll’s exploration of the feminine in natural spaces adds layers of depth and intrigue and self reflection to “Selfie.”

Through this harmonious fusion of diverse artistic elements, Carroll invites viewers to delve into a captivating realm where the boundaries of art forms blur, igniting the imagination and leaving an indelible impression.

About The Artist Photographer Patty Carroll

Patty Carroll has been known for her use of highly intense, saturated colour photographs since the 1970’s. Her most recent project, “Anonymous Women,” consists of a 3-part series of studio installations made for the camera, addressing women and their complicated relationships with domesticity.

By camouflaging the figure in drapery and/or domestic objects, Carroll creates a dark and humorous game of hide-and-seek between her viewers and the Anonymous Woman. The photographs were published as a monograph, Anonymous Women, officially released in January, 2017 by Daylight Books, and most recently Anonymous Women: Domestic Demise published in 2020 by Aint-Bad

Detectives V2

Detectives v.2 presents a scene inspired by the visual language of 1940s and 1950s pulp fiction and film noir. Divided into bold narrative panels, the composition centres on a man holding a gun, framed against a stylised cityscape reminiscent of Venetian blinds. A woman in an elegant gown stands apart from the action, her role left deliberately unclear, adding tension and intrigue to the scene.
