Both a painting and reproduced as a Giclee print this artwork pays homage to Doug’s love of the highly fashionable (at the time) beehive hairstyle which was popular with many ladies including Priscilla Presley, wife of ‘the king’ Elvis Presley.
Doug Kemp was born in 1939 in Bath because of wartime evacuation and raised in Walthamstow in the east end of London. He has a unique style of fine art that draws reference from personal experience, the USA (New York & Chicago) comic book art, pop art, post-industrialist (modern art), film noir, art-deco and gangster movies made in the 1930s & 1940s.
