Doug Kemp Fine Art
Doug Kemp trained at Walthamstow College of Art and graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts in the 1960s.
He went on to hold a Fellowship at Gloucester College of Art and spent over two decades as a senior lecturer at Loughborough College of Art and Design.
His work pulls from personal experience, American culture — especially Chicago — comic books, film noir, gangster films of the 1930s and 40s, and a long thread of art history running back over 2,000 years.
On January 21, 1937, Prevost died of acute alcoholism at the age of 40. Her body was not discovered until neighbours raised the alarm after complaining about her pet dachshund, Maxie incessant barking.
Stone Bride centres on a lifelike sculpture of a woman carved in cold blue-green stone, poised between human presence and immovable object. As a man passes by seemingly unaware, the scene suggests emotional distance and quiet resignation.
