The title “Miss Red” serves as a pun on “misread,” suggesting alternative motives or a potential misinterpretation of the character.
There are two yellow spotlights beaming from the black background and converging upon a striking figure, Miss Red. The image evokes, perhaps, a final climatic note being sung.
Her blood-red hair adds intensity to the scene. She is dressed in a zebra-patterned dress and long green opera gloves, adorned with pinkish cheetah spots, accentuating her confidence and style.
Referencing the vibrant nightclubs of the 1950s, this artwork captures the era’s pulsating atmosphere, glamour, and artistic expression.
About the artist, Doug Kemp was born in Bath in 1939 because of wartime evacuation and was raised in the east end of London. Doug’s unique style of modernist art draws reference from personal experience, the USA (New York & Chicago) comic book art, pop art, post-industrialist (modern art), film noir, art-deco and gangster movies made in the 1930s & 1940s.
