Not Avon Calling Collection
In later versions of the artwork, the black background has the title words “Not Avon” just visible at the top in an even darker hue. The title is a nod to the advertising campaign, starting in the 1950s, of “Ding-Dong, Avon Calling”.
This promoted entrepreneurship of women to sell make-up products in their networks to other women.
The black background represents the darker room inside a door, Central to the composition is a neon pink circle, representing a peephole in the mysterious door.
The Not Avon Calling artwork has been reworked from the original 1990s painting on paper and limited edition Linocut prints into a set of 75 signed limited edition Giclee prints and subsequent artwork for various product designs.
