1970s Pop Art Paintings On Canvas By Doug Kemp
The 1970s – Moving from Gloucester to Loughborough. This was Doug Kemps “coming of age”, where there was a transition from mainly abstract and geometric design moved to the backgrounds with comic book-style characters becoming representative as foreground characters.
The coupling of these characters with these abstract and geometric shapes made an impact and Doug’s style of art has continued to develop over the last 50 years.
The painting, Billie Agent, epitomizes this transition and combination, some might even consider this painting being seminal work of Doug’s newly adopted style.
1970s Pop Art Dating
Determining the date of completion of any particular piece of work sometimes can be rather vague, but determining the actual location where it was made is worse.
Lack of permanent useful studio space in the early days did not appear to hinder the prolific production of works, although they appeared to be generally smaller in dimensions and, perhaps, a greater number of works on paper, which by their nature, are smaller.
