2020s Pop Art Paintings & Prints By Doug Kemp Artist Collection

The 2020 decade witnessed significant global events that shaped the world. It began with the COVID-19 pandemic, causing a health crisis and impacting economies worldwide.

Protests against racial injustice, such as the Black Lives Matter movement, gained momentum. Political shifts included Brexit, impeachment trials of US President Trump, and the election of Joe Biden.

Climate change became a pressing concern with record-breaking wildfires and extreme weather events. Technological advancements, including the rise of AI and cryptocurrencies have marked the 2020s decade so far. And in all this time the artist Doug Kemp continues to produce works on canvas.

Journey Through A Time Of Bubbles – 116 x 127 cm Acrylic pop art painting on canvas from the 2020s artist collection.

Painted during the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown (2021) the scenes from this painting represent more of Doug’s favourite things, but this time mostly from film and imagination, although there are still some elements expressed in his earlier work.

At first glance it initially appears that the bubbles may be floating free but under closer inspection, one can see that they are offshoots falling from a whip-like meandering path leading forward into the middle distance.

Both characters are heading in the same direction (not so common in Doug’s work), but they are not necessarily navigating any given path.

The female character is based on photo taken of one of Doug’s students in the 1980s during his time as senior lecturer whilst

Painted during the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown (2021) the shapes depicted (actually rosettes) were coincidently similar to those portrayed in the media of the time.

However, these, and “Spikey balls” also used by the media have been utilised in Doug’s work on much earlier occasions.

Painted during the Coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown in 2021 this painting depicts relationships between some of Doug’s favourite things and ideas he hadn’t yet worked on to canvas.

Bubbled scenes featuring the real and physical, but also from film and imagination with elements previously expressed in his earlier work.

The elements or memories are bouncing off each other, in no particular order, in their own bubbles as were so many people at the time.
