Moving On Painting – 116 x 127 cm Acrylic pop art painting on canvas from the 2000s, ‘Dancing Times’ and ‘Divorce’ artist collection by Doug Kemp.
Considered by Doug to be a transitional painting. ‘Moving On’ was painted in 2010 and at a time when Doug’s art was evolving from a figurative portraiture style to that of abstract where generally there is no attempt to correctly represent any accurate depiction of any visual reality.
Abstract artists work into their art gestural forms, shapes and colours to achieve this effect.
Some of these abstract elements are represented by the amoeba like palettes, organic in nature and flowing into one another in a similar form to that of a lava lamp. As for the central hero, the man in the hat, it is not clear if he is taking a bow or in fact dancing.
His suit does not assault perspective as would an overlaid grid pattern, and it initially appears as a normal pinstripe suit, but first impression can be deceptive.

Moving On was painted in 2020 at a time when Doug’s art was evolving from a mainly figurative portraiture style to include more abstract forms where generally there is not, necessarily, any attempt to represent any accurate depiction of any visual reality.
Artists often work gestural forms, shapes and colours into their art to achieve this effect.
Abstract elements are represented in this painting by the Amoeba-like artists’ palette structures, flowing around one another.
The pattern of the suit of the central character offers a split perspective to the background scene created by the flattening lines across his clothing.
This contrasts the floral pattern of the blouse of the female character, with realism creeping into the overall essentially geometric and abstract composite image.
Circle devices feature prominently in the background and emphasise the column-like structure of the main focus.
